The 10-hole second phase drill program totalling 1600m, up from the original three holes, includes extensional and infill drilling that will support delivery of a maiden resource estimate for the project.
It will also collect core for planned metallurgical testwork.
Flynn Gold (ASX:FG1) has started drilling the first hole to test for downdip extensions of the previous high-grade, gold-tungsten intersection of 17m grading 2.31g/t Au, 0.73% WO3, 0.16% Co and 0.16% copper from a down-hole depth of 121m in hole 2019FTD014.
“We are delighted to have a new phase of drilling underway at the Firetower project, with the goal of rapidly advancing the high-grade gold-tungsten-cobalt mineralisation towards a maiden mineral resource estimate,” managing director Neil Marston said.
“The company’s board has recently approved an expansion of the planned drilling from three to ten holes, all of which are fully permitted, with the first hole now underway.
“As part of this program, we intend to test for depth extensions to the mineralisation, which has seen limited drilling below 100 metres from surface. This drilling has the potential to significantly expand the scale of the mineralised system.”
The expanded diamond drilling program at Firetower is designed to test down-dip extensions of high-grade polymetallic gold-tungsten-cobalt-copper mineralisation intersected in previous drill holes, collect fresh core for planned testing and provide infill and extensional data to support a maiden resource estimate.
Three of the planned holes will target extensions to historical drill holes with the first hole underway to test the continuation of polymetallic mineralisation about 75m downdip of a high-grade intercept in 2019FTD007E.
Firetower sits within the northeastern extension of the Mt Read Volcanics belt, a highly prospective corridor that hosts several major base and precious metal deposits in northwest Tasmania.
Drilling to date has defined mineralisation over a strike length of about 250m and to depths of 150m below surface. It remains open at depth.
FG1 acquired the project in 2023 and has completed desktop studies, limited new drilling, and comprehensive relogging and re-assaying of historical diamond core.
The company has also completed diamond drilling at its Henty silver-lead-zinc project near Zeehan in western Tasmania with final assays pending.
It drilled five holes totalling 1101.6m at the Silver King and South King prospects along with one hole for 146.6m at the Grieves Siding prospect.
Early results have been received for the first hole at Silver King, which returned a 1m intersection at 1020g/t silver, 15.2% lead, 4.7% zinc, 0.45% copper, 0.39% antimony and 0.05g/t gold from 101m.
Reported intersections are consistent with those reported from historical mine records at the Silver King mine.
All potentially mineralised core samples from the program have been cut and sent for laboratory analysis with final assays expected in the coming weeks.
