Northern Star Resources has appointed two new directors to its board (reports MiningNews).

Mary Hackett and Nick Cernotta will join the board as non-executive directors from July 1.

Hackett is a mechanical engineer and experienced oil and gas executive, having spent 17 years at Woodside Petroleum.

She was most recently vice president, Australia, New Zealand and PNG at Baker Hughes.

Cernotta is a mining engineer and former Fortescue Metals Group director of operations.

He is also on the boards of producers Pilbara Minerals, Panoramic Resources and New Century Resources.

Northern Star executive chairman Bill Beament welcomed Hackett and Cernotta to the board, saying they would bring a wealth of skills and experience.

"They both have extensive experience in the resources industry in an operational and corporate capacity, significantly boosting our board's skill set, particularly in project management and engineering expertise," he said.

"Their skills and experience, both in Australia and internationally, are entirely consistent with our mantra that we are a business first and a mining company second.

"I look forward to their contributions as we seek to maintain our record of generating strong benefits and superior returns for the wide range of communities in which we operate and our shareholders."

It takes Northern Star's board to seven members, which also includes Christopher Rowe, Peter O'Connor, Shirley In'tVeld and John Fitzgerald.
