The delivery by trucking contractor MLG Oz represents first time ore has been trucked from a Mincor mine since the company shuttered its Kambalda operations over six years ago.

Mincor said it would continue delivering ore to build a stockpile ahead of the recommissioning of the concentrator next quarter.

Managing director David Southam described the first delivery of ore as a fantastic achievement as the company closed-in on first nickel concentrate production, which remained on track for next quarter.

“With the current nickel price substantially above the assumed price used in our definitive feasibility study, we are incredibly excited to be on the cusp of production once again in Kambalda,” he said.

Mincor shuttered its Kambalda nickel operations in 2016 after a sustained downturn in prices for the steel-hardening commodity.

However nickel has since enjoyed a resurgence on the back of its growing profile as a key electric vehicle battery ingredient.

Mincor has an offtake deal with BHP’s Nickel West to process and refine its ore.
