That was found in a review of historical results from Sun Silver’s (ASX:SS1) Maverick Springs silver-gold project, an advanced 292Moz silver equivalent resource in Nevada’s Tier 1 mining jurisdiction.
It comes ahead of Sun Silver’s own drilling, funded by a successful $13m ASX IPO.
Maverick Springs is nestled within Nevada’s Carlin Trend, where majors such as Barrick Gold, Newmont have investments and is home to Kinross’ world-class 3.7Moz Bald Mountain gold mine.
The previous owners completed ~200 holes for ~60,000m of drilling covering just 20% of the property, leading SS1 to believe there’s a lot more to the resource than currently meets the eye.
New high grade target zones on the northwest boundary of Maverick Springs have been defined as part of a comprehensive review of historical drill material and data assessment.
Historical results are interpreted to be on trend from known rocky outcrops, with pathfinder elements up to 1.2km from the current known mineralisation.
Exceptional historical drill results from the review include:
- 303.08g/t silver over 54.86m from 202.69m in hole MR06-167, including 1.52m at 6216g/t silver from 240m; and,
- 113.16g/t silver from 109.73m from 173.74m in MR06-1661, including 1.5m at 5399g/t silver from 204m.
SS1 says these zones are significant as they lie on the north-western boundary of the defined mineralised zone with grades and intercept widths significantly larger than the average of the current JORC-modelled resource.
Targets have now been identified for animminent maiden drilling campaign with contractor Alford Drilling using that knowledge, together with results from fieldwork.
“Defining this high-grade zone and generating inaugural drill targets validates our diligent analysis of crucial data and drill information at Maverick Springs,” SS1 exec director Gerard O’Donovan says.
“Mapping high-grade results near the northwestern border of the current resource has boosted confidence in potential for extension of mineralisation beyond defined boundaries and the potential for discovering higher grades.
“We look forward to testing these theories in our upcoming inaugural drill campaign.”
